Lawn Care Practices:

1. Always let your lawn grow between 3" to 4" a week to maintain a low weed to NO weed lawn.
2. To keep your lawn at 2" mow your when the blades reach 3". (Lower the blades, less roots and higher chance of weeds)
3. Higher the blades the more roots and stronger and lush your lawn will look.
4. Keep your blades sharp, it will help give you a cleaner cut and better looking lawn.
5. Spring and Fall- Dethatch (power rake) and aerate your lawn to encourage the roots to spread and keep down compaction in your lawn and ALWAYS overseed after this practice.
6. Thatch- for those who don't know what it is- the grass clippings breaking down to create more organic matter which will be soil after a few years or so, but will harm your lawn if not maintained. Will cause your turfgrass to become "bouncy" and prevents water and fertilizer to reach the roots and soil. (See #5)
7. Winterizing your lawn- mow your lawn at the height of 3" and mulch your leaves as fine as you can get them. As long as you can seen turfgrass more than the leaves, your lawn will be ready for the cold winter.

Watering Practices:

• Get a soil test. University of Minnesota does them. Click How to Submit and the link will bring you to the U of M's website for soil testing.
• Water your lawn until the TOP 6" are moist. When you do that, you will only have to do that up to once a week or less depending on the weather in your area.
• Water your lawn EARLY in the morning to have less risk of disease or install an irrigation system and have it set to around 3a-5a twice a week at 10-15 mins per zone and decrease as needed.
• ALWAYS avoid runoff as mish as you can. Make sure all your irrigation heads and sprinklers DO NOT HIT the sidewalks and houses.

Fertilzing Your Lawn:

1. Get a soil test. University of Minnesota does them. Click How to Submit and the link will bring you to the U of M's website for soil testing.
2. Spring Fertilizing- Use a Iron (Fe) mix with a 22-0-6 general mix to increase color and strength.
3. Summer Fertilizing- Use sparsly, since the lawn is not in a GROWING mode and will cause your turf to burn. Fertilize in the evening and use a water-soluble so it will get into the roots and soils little faster and won't cause your turf to get burnt as easily. FERTILIZE AS NEEDED!!!
4. Fall Fertilizing- Use a 36-0-6 with HIGH Iron (Fe) to help with winterizing your turf and to help with Spring growth and weed suppression in the next growing season. This will help give you a VERY green lawn and will help you have a better lawn.
